This project naturally started with me reading and understanding the Green Book document, available online. This helped me understand the core principles, classifications and things the scheme is trying to achieve. To start the document looks at three key things; Sustainable Productions, Sustainable Operations and Sustainable Buildings. I then looked at the accreditations for productions and what was needed to be done in order for these to achieve that.
There are three levels to theatre green book accreditation, Basic, Intermediate and Advanced. These are all focused on ending a linear system and creating and cyclic system whereas scenery and materials are to be re-used.
We were then lucky enough to have an industry talk by designer Maria Terry who designed the Nottingham Playhouse's The Trials to the highest level of green book accreditation.
My key focus of this module was exploring the immersive theatre industry. Immersive theatre is so vast, the first element in this is exploring what is immersive theatre and understand it is broken down into three main categories; Site Specific, Immersive and Interactive theatre. I visually broke this down into a Venn diagram to show that some performances can fit into multiple categories.
Research Project
This project is hugely about research so for this I interviewed the following people to understand all elements of the immersive industry.
Jade and Seb Blaber
Owners of Unlocked Vision Entertainment
Andrea Moneta
Theatre Designer and Immersive Theatre Maker
Tamsin
Architect Student
Ben Stones
Theatre Designer
Steph Ricketts
Entertainments Project Manager at Merlin Entertainments
Beth Clarke
Creative Designer at Merlin Entertainments
Lots of reading!
I tried to create video versions of the interviews but many of them couldn't be shared online.
I wanted to explore as much of the industry as possible, through this I undertook four small projects to try different elements of the industry. These were all built with different green-book principles in mind.

Recycling Scenic Project
For this project I was asked to create a sign for a talent show at a local school. This was made with 100% Recycled plywood from a pervious production used to create the signage as well as re-used timber and old show-paint.
Recycling Scenic Project
For this part of the project I created an Easter Egg Hunt for a local buisness. The project used 100% Recycled plywood from the client used to create the hand-painted signs for the event. I cut the eggs with a jigsaw with off-cuts cut down to A3 for laser cutting down the line. Spare paint from the workshop used to paint the signage. Often these were show-specific mixes that otherwise may not have been used again.

Interactive Theatre Scenic Project
For this part of the project I worked leading the scenic team on a pop-up escape room for Deathcell: Magenta. The walls are all re-used from the original show in February as well as the paints being re-used even if there was new scenic techniques. It was a challenge of delivering a high-quality experience blending existing scenic with new scenic.
Speculative Design Project
For this part of the project I designed the Underground Nightclub with long-term sustainability to mind with the challenges and limitations of an immersive space. This was followed by by a deep-dive sustainability report.
